Just off the A303 and accessible by train from London – Waterloo to Sherborne and from London – Paddington and Bristol to Castle Cary, The Open Pathway Retreat Centre is a nurturing and tranquil setting dedicated to those seeking harmony, healing, and spiritual growth. Its ethos is to meet each person with compassion, honouring our shared human spirit beyond background or belief. This calm, heart-centred place provides an ideal environment for the Gong Practitioner Training Course© – a training that goes beyond acquiring knowledge and mastering technique, into an embodied journey of healing and transformation with the gong.
Developed by Gong Master and Head Gong Tutor Sheila Whittaker, the training is a one-year CMA-certificated programme led by Aleka, whose personal healing journey and connection to the Sheila Whittaker lineage infuses the course with warmth, compassion, and gentle wisdom in a nurturing space. You’ll receive expert tuition, individual mentorship and supervised practice to develop your unique gong-playing style and master the art and science of sound healing with the gong.
The course is offered in a supportive small-group learning environment, designed to strengthen your skills and deepen your relationship with the gong, with coursework and case studies in between modules to integrate your learning and build your confidence as a Gong Practitioner. Students will need to buy their own gong by weekend 2. Support in selecting the best gong for each student will be given during the first weekend. Completion of this training will empower you with the knowledge, skills and expertise to share the healing power of the gong with others as a Certified Gong Practitioner.
The cost of the training includes a delicious shared vegetarian or vegan lunch pepared by the Open Pathway Retreat Centre, with snacks and refreshments throughtout the training days. It does not include acommodation or other meals, but you can contact The Open Pathway Retreat Centre to arrange your stay or book accommodation off-site at the many local AirBandB options. Students should bring a mat, blanket and cushion to receive a gong bath, a notepad and pen to take notes, and indoor shoes as outdoor shoes are not allowed in the training space. You may also want to bring a bathing suit as there is a heated pool at the centre (additional small usage fee to be paid to Open Pathway Retreat Centre).
